About Marie Mercado, Psy.D., M.S.
I am a NYS licensed clinical psychologist and founder of Brooklyn Integrative Psychological Services, PLLC, based out of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. For well over 15 years, I have worked in both outpatient clinics and in-patient psychiatric hospitals all over NYC, as well as conducted individual psychotherapy for adults and partners in relationships in private practice.
As an avid, lifelong learner of all things psychological, I have received specialized training in LGBTQIA+, serious mental illness, Autism Spectrum Disorders/Neurodiversity, perinatal and student populations, as well as delivered developmentally disability/intellectual disability social services, in-home crisis services, and couples and family services. In addition, for many years I utilized my outgoing personality to run groups, workshops, and parent-trainings for clients in every NYC borough. I have extensive experience working with those diagnosed and/or suffering from anxiety and panic disorders, depression and mood disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity and non-specified learning disorders, Complex/PTSD, schizophrenia, psychosis, personality disorders, Autism Spectrum and Developmental Disorders and Intellectual Disabilities, as well as comorbid diagnoses in both outpatient and inpatient hospital settings.
My style or modality of psychotherapy is highly Integrative, combining traditional psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, cognitive behavioral (CBT), dialectical behavioral (DBT), and interpersonal/relational therapies to customize our work to your needs. I have also received intensive training and/or certification in Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) with Dr. Sue Johnson, Horneyian Therapy (based on the work of Karen Horney), Ericksonian Hypnosis, Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, Schema Therapy, Trauma Art Narrative Therapy (TANT), Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, and Brief Solution-Focused Therapy. In my opinion, not every problem is a nail so why have only one hammer? I have a keen interest in how to merge evidence-based therapies with alternative “new-wave” therapies, such as the burgeoning intersection of western neuropsychology and eastern philosophies. I do not just simply ask how you’re feeling and then tell you to breathe more (but of course, breathing is a good thing to do!).
As one of my patients, you will receive my comprehensive approach to improving your overall health, taking into consideration your culture, identity, systems, environment, nutrition, pharmacology, current events and physical health. My personal interests and research focused on diverse and underrepresented populations, such as those from creative or taboo subcultures, intersecting minority identities, and non-traditional lifestyles and identities. As a native New Yorker, this has been my own cultural background and it lends itself quite well to being a completely non-judgmental and open-minded, no BS psychologist.
In terms of values, I am committed to actively resisting the corporatization of healthcare, the monopolization of web-based algorithms by tech companies, and the intrusion of capitalistic oligarchs into our altruistic profession. Although some level of involvement is essential for running a practice efficiently, I am dedicated to combating these developments through various means. Profits are funneled back into enhancing staff welfare, fostering clinical growth, organizing community gatherings, and contributing to minority-owned enterprises. I aim to reduce our corporate impact by promoting a genuine online presence and outstanding clinical care that adheres to ethical principles and human decency.
It can be difficult to know what type of therapy or therapist is right for you, and to also find someone who you feel able to open up your true self to. All too often people feel weird around mental health providers, and find that they just aren’t clicking with anyone. Let's meet to discuss your needs and to see how I can help you evolve!

Services & Pricing
Below is a menu of clinical services. An initial consultation and completed registration is required before all services.
Session fees will be collected at the onset of each session. Patients can use Zelle, Cash or credit/benefit cards accepted through IvyPay (a confidential and secure credit card processor for therapists).
I am considered an “out of network” provider for insurance carriers in my private practice. If you have an insurance plan with “out-of-network coverage,” please contact me to discuss your options. “Out of network reimbursement” means that your insurer will reimburse a portion of your session fees (often around $150-$400) after you pay your mental health deductible.
The rates below are per session unless otherwise described. Individual psychotherapy sessions are 45 minutes, intake and couples' therapy sessions are one hour or prorated.
All sessions require 24-hours notice of cancelation to avoid penalty fee. In the event of a real emergency, I may ask for documentation to void a cancelation fee.
